Pep Guardiola hailed Erling Haaland as a “fantastic striker” after he broke the Premier League’s single-season goalscoring record in Manchester City’s 3-0 win over West Ham.
While Pep Guardiola has challenged his Norwegian striker Erling Haaland to beat his own record again in the coming years, Haaland netted his 35th Premier League goal of the season. This surpasses the record held by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer.
Now the Norwegian striker has scored the most league goals since Southampton’s Ron Davies netted 37 in 1967.
Pep Guardiola said: “It’s special; he deserves it; without the team, he can’t do it. But he is a special striker. This record will be broken sooner or later. Maybe by him in the future. We are very pleased with him. It was a pleasure working with him. And everyone is happy to have him.”
Haaland has netted 51 goals in all competitions, and he needs 12 more to equal Dixie Dean’s record, of which he joked: He had a bruise after the celebration. “It was very painful. Everyone patted me on the back,” he said.
